Saint Augustine's college gets the seats

Saint Augustine’s College gets the seats

After a long wait Saint Augustine's college finally gets the approval from the city council on the new stadium seating plan. On Tuesday September 20th the city approved the school to a number of 2,500-seat plan for the George Williams Athletic complex. The field has been done since the summer and was waiting for this approval. Though the football season has started the team looks forward to playing their first home game at this year’s homecoming, as of now the school is playing in Durahm, NC for their home games. President Dianne Boardley Suber stated "we are pleased the city council recognized the importance of this stadium, not only Saint Augustine's college but the community at large, the students-athletes, coaches and alumni need a place deserve a place to call their own." This was a council meeting that was very intense and the Saint Augustine's college community should be very pleased.

Football is back with a new look

By. John Kamara
Football Is Backkkkk
With A new FACEEE
First off to the diehard football fans that thought they would not be having a season cheer back up we are having one. There have been some depressing ESPN moments since the NBA finals has finished. But at the end of the day good Job NFL owners and players for saving sports, you would think sports was dead but it’s back alive.
Speaking on back alive the game has came back with a vengeance and maybe I am wrong but this year maybe the most anticipated years ever and I mean ever. Free agency and trades have hit the market like never before. But the question is why is that was the game influenced by another sport? If I was the answer to that question I would say yes a big yes and the game was influenced by NBA and it started with the now known as “THE DECSION” by the KING Lebron James. The NBA free agency was exiting and the trades where too and it’s still going on with all the stars trying to get on teams. So look up now football is doing the same thing and the biggest star was now Eagle Nnamdi Asomugha. He had headlines going everywhere for his decision and alongside him Chad Johnson going to New England, Plaxico Burress going to the Jets, Cowboys releasing four key players for nothing, Kevin Kolb going to the Cardinals and other major moves by so many other teams and players down to the retirement of Randy Moss. Is this the new wave of football or is this the new wave of sports, we shall see but saying that we do have a very exiting season ahead of us where there will be contenders in every conference and some surprises, I advice everyone to install NFL Network and don’t miss out on any given Sunday because you might miss a lot……….

Im so Geeked for pre season

   By. Damon Gibson

As a former collegiate player @ the St Augustine's College I want to personally say I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL THE NFL PRESEASON BEGINS....this is the opportunity all athletes dream of the opportunity to compete to play in the NFL...if you’re a free agent on a team that just went through the FREE AGENCEY MIX UP you should be GEEKED for a lack of a better term...Right now in camps it’s a even playing field this is just like little league all over..No contact from coaches or anybody from the organization you may have been a part of...Now it simply boils down to who is the best man that can win me a football game through the pre season, and that's who I'm going with WEEK ONE. So in my opinion do not be surprised if you see some mixed up lineups in the preseason almost to the point where viewers will start to think the COMMISH is losing his mind, don't be alarmed it’s just because of the NFL LOCKOUT... But as an analyst I'm excited about this season different faces NEW PLACES...we will see some interesting battles this season just off the strength of free agencies...ALTHOUGH there is a lot of football left to be played but like I said IM SO GEEKED FOR THE PRE SEASON....

Congratulations Walter Sanders

By. John Kamara
Made official on Thursday July, 28th 2011 Walter Sanders Former Standout Tailback of Saint Augustine’s college was signed to the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent. Sanders a 5’8 214lbs RB out of Baltimore, MD makes this an even more touching story. Walter Sanders said “this was a dream come true to become an NFL player out of a division 2 school”. Though he was undrafted it may was a good thing because being from the Baltimore area he got a chance to work out with all pro athletes including Ravens own Ray Rice. He stated that the coaches told him what he needed to do and he did just that. As he worked out with the players he gained confidence and new that he could make an NFL roster and now it is here.
Sanders also stated that this was to all the non believers that did not think he can make it but also a special thank you to all the support he got from the Saint Augustine’s college. In his senior season as a Falcon Sanders put up great numbers and took home great awards as well
Sanders was named CIAA offensive player of the year after rushing for a league-high 1,377 yards and 15 touchdowns, both modern single-season school records. He leaves St. Aug as the school's career leading rusher (2,747 yards) in the modern era. He led St. Aug to a 9-2 overall mark in 2010 with the nine wins setting a modern school record. Sanders was named to the All-CIAA first team in addition to the Daktronics All-Region first team, the Don Hansen All-Super Region second team and the Boxtorow/HBCU All-America team. He was a candidate for the Harlon Hill Trophy, which is given to the Division II player of the year. In May, Sanders graduated from St. Aug with a bachelors of Science degree in business.
Sanders is the third Falcon to sign with an NFL team since 2006. The others are Alex Hall, who was drafted in 2008, and Kevin Jones, who signed as a free agent in 2006. This is a great stepping stone for HBCU’s and Saint Augustine’s college.

Brand Internship experience

By. John Kamara

What has become a positive summer for since school has been out since May, 13th 2011 I would have to give a lot of credit to the Brand Internship program. Here at the Brand internship program that is under Work+ Wealth an owned Business by Rashelle Brooks I am the Lead communication Intern. Here I am working on a Brand Campaign. What is a Brand campaign? Well this is a campaign that promotes Work+ Wealth, in efforts to build trust and visibility around the community. Located in Raleigh, Work+ Wealth gives the opportunity for those that are in need to set themselves up to compete and be eligible for jobs all around the country and locally.
I am currently working with a strong team that is driven to execute various tactics to get people interested in the Brand program and Work+ Wealth. I had to take on a couple of task thus far in the program such as, Seek target audiences out in the community, Write the first draft of the campaign summary, Come up with video ideas that can go up on social media sights and also search for different advertisement angles such as getting promotion on TV, radio, PSA’s and press releases.
With the help that I have been getting from Rashelle Brooks, Bobby Sheilds and my whole Internship team I have gained leadership skills, vocal Skills, time management and strategic planning skills. Every week I walk in the office I feel as though I may be better prepared to step foot into the real work force and I believe that my Internship team feel the same way about themselves. My fellow Interns are currently working on Facebook and Twitter updates, planning events that are coming up calculating cost of execution for our projects and so much more so this can be a successful campaign.
As the program heads towards closure but the best works have yet to come I plan to write press releases on up and coming events, get advertisements on radio stations and Blog about everything that is going on with the Brand Internship program. I hope to finish out strong.
